SCE Central Library

Overview of Library Information Centre

The SCE Central Library is to provide information services and access to bibliographic and full text Digital and printed resources to support the scholarly and informational needs of the Institute Community. The Central Library has built a Collection of over 46,468 books. The Library Spread over 815 sq.mts., with provides access to the best of digital resources through its subscription to Delnet Consortium databases consisting of scholarly and industry relevant content.

It has computerized all its housekeeping activities using Library Software that is being maintained and updated regularly.

More than 192 National and International journals/Magazines are currently subscribed. 500 E- Journals are providing through Delnet Consortium.

Sections & Services

Stock Section

This Section contains a collection of about 46,468 books; Users can locate the required in the stock section. All the books are entered in to the Accession Register and get signature from the principal.

Information Retrieval
Retrieval is done through title, author, and publisher. List of Subject heads along with Classification numbers are displayed in front Portion of every rack. The OPAC also available the same books location.

Reference Section

The library has a good collection of Reference Books consisting of Encyclopedias, Year Books, Dictionaries, Directories, GK Books, Competitive Examinations Books, Study Abroad Books, Almanacs, Atlases, Biographies, etc.

Automation

Most of the functions of the library such as issue, return, reservation and searching books have been automated, Barcode technologies are used for issue, return,stock maintenance etc…

Digital Library

The digital library has more than 3962 CDs/DVDs and 10 Desktop systems provided with internet connections. Internet connection is available to the students and faculty for accessing digital collections, such as e-book, e-journal, NPTEL Video Courses etc. DELNET (Developing Library Network),NDL(National digital library) is used for the ILL (Inter Library Loan) provide more than 500 International Online Journals for each department.

Circulation Section

All the students and staff are provided with bar code stickers affixed on their Identity Card. Circulation Services (issue, return and renewal) are fully computerized with bar code facility. All the books are affixed with barcode based on the Accession Number issuing through CAMPUS ILIB Software. An open access system is followed here and users can take the books from the book section.

Technical Section

Book Acquisition Process

Receiving requests from Heads of Departments for new books, duplicate checking, ordering, accessioning of books and processing bills for payment are the main functions of this section. Suggestions and recommendations for the purchase of new books can be submitted to this section. All the books received from vendors/publishers and the donated books are physically processed and accessioned. The section also has the responsibility of scrutinizing and passing the bill for the books received.

Classification Process

Dewey Decimal Classification scheme is followed for classifying the books according to the subject. Each book is assigned a Call Number which consists of a Class number, Book Number and Year of publication. The Call Number is written on the spine label of the book. It helps to the users is locating the Book from the shelf.

Catalogue Section

According to AACR II the catalogue entries are made. In the OPAC the Accn. No., Call No., Author, Title, Sub Title, Publisher, Year, Edition, Price, Page Number details are given
